The road ahead

May 29, 2008

I drove as quickly and as long as I could over the last few days so that I could arrive back home in Seattle last night. As you can see from the map, I had driven over 9,000 miles during these last 4 weeks. One of the things that Emma taught me was to appreciate [...]

Happy 90th Birthday to my Grandma!!

May 28, 2008

Today marks my grandmother’s (my dad’s mom) 90th birthday. Wow. We really wanted to stop by and personally wish her a happy birthday in Ohio, but the road was just too much on Ella. Anyway, we’ll be flying out to see her later in the year. She’s always good for telling stories from the depression [...]

A long night in Wichita, KS

May 25, 2008

If you’ve been following me on twitter, you’ll know that I’m currently hunkered down in tornado alley, in Wichita, Kansas. Now we used to have tornadoes here and there in Ohio, but not like this. I’ve heard varying forecasts, but the surrounding counties all just had tornado warnings expire for the first of 2 storms. [...]

Why Savannah?

May 19, 2008

I have no idea why Emma chose Savannah as the end point for our cross country journey. Was it the sunrise? We don’t know, however, when we arrived to Savannah on Friday, both Ellen and I could sense this was the right place to be. This journey has been a long struggle of ups and [...]

Good Morning Emma

May 19, 2008

Originally this was for the morning of May 17th This morning we woke up before dawn and walked down to the beach on Tybee Island, Georgia to watch the sunrise. I expected the sunrise to be as spiritual as the sunset was in Santa Monica three weeks ago, but to my surprise, it wasnít. Sure [...]

On the way to the coast

May 18, 2008

We had a lack of internet over the last few days, so I will be blasting out a few posts pretty quickly. This post originally was for May 16th. We drove from the deep south, Tallahassee, FL to Savannah, GA on Friday. While we drove thru the South we found some damn fine BBQ which [...]

The answer is near

May 15, 2008

I haven’t blogged for a couple of days for various reasons. The biggest reason is that Mother’s day was kinda hard on everyone. Sure, we were with friends, but it didn’t help that Emma wasn’t physically here for Ellen’s first Mother’s Day. It was really difficult for me to simply buy a couple of cards [...]
